Civic Amenity Site / Recycling Centre Perry Road Witham

You may have read or heard about an article printed in the local newspapers, alleging that Essex County Council (ECC) is planning to close a number of Recycling Centres for Household Waste (RCHW) across Essex, including the one at Perry Road, Witham, and build 3 new sites at strategic locations to accommodate future demand.

The Parish Council wants to let you know that Braintree District Council, along with other Essex Authorities, has received an e-mail from the County Council clarifying that whilst ECC is reviewing the future of the RCHWs, no proposals have been developed or decisions taken regarding the future development of this service. ECC has recently undertaken a public survey to better understand what the public wants from the service and they are in the process of analysing the results which will help shape any future service. They have given an assurance that discussions will be held with the Districts/Boroughs once this work is completed and that when the options have been explored, any infrastructure or operational changes that may be proposed that have a user impact will be subject to full consultation. They do not expect any proposals to be at a stage for consultation until mid-2015 at the earliest.

We hope this offers some reassurance that it is not a ‘done deal’ and that the County Council is keen to ensure full and open consultation with partners once they are in a position to do so. Your Parish Council will be closely monitoring this situation and taking all available and necessary steps to ensure that local residents are not inconvenienced when disposing of unwanted domestic items.
